I am also quite sure there are items of business backing up on my desk that need to be taken care of but I can't stop experimenting with the Distress Paint! I am looking at this series of posts as testing ground for a new class to teach, so I am going full steam ahead and not worrying about the stuff I am supposed to be getting done. That's always the way, isn't it? (see cartoon square, bottom right corner)

I did not take a picture of the background process as we discussed how to create the mixed paint background yesterday. But these are the colors I used today: Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn and Broken China. I used the same exact method as yesterday except a lot less paint. It worked perfectly this time.
(if you wanted to start with just some of these paints...this is the combo I would choose)
Here is the completed tag.
Let me show you the steps.
Next, I decided to see if you could use the distress Paint on stamps. The answer is YES you can. I used the chicken wire stamp from the SA Mixed Media set and Distress Paint Picket Fence to add a bit of white over the bright background. I just pounced on the paint with the dabber top. Most important thing to remember...wash the stamp right after use. I just sprayed the stamp with water from the mister bottle and wiped it up with a wet wipe. Super easy clean up.
I thought I might divert your attention away from Distress Paint for just a minute to talk about how I colored the small stamped images. I used 5 colors of Distress Markers: Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Mustard Seed, Pumice Stone, and Old Paper. I also used a fine tip water brush.
I stamped the image of the small balloon from Mini Blueprints 4, using black Archival ink and dried it with the Heat it tool for about 5 seconds just to make sure it was dry. Again, super important to use Archival or StazOn ink so the image maintains integrity when you add color and water.
Mini Blueprints 4 |
Now just start layering on the Distress Ink. The ink will look permanent but of course we know it's Distress and Distress always reacts with water.
So, here is what it looks like after using the water brush. My yellow got a bit too far into my pink for my liking so I will wait a minute for it to dry and add more pink.
Like this...
If you notice in comparison to the picture above, the center looks lighter. To pull the color away, I pressed the center of the balloon with my finger wrapped in a paper towel while it was still wet from the water brush.
Start adding Old Paper Distress Marker.
Then water to blend.
End with Pumice stone around the edge.
And here is the finished balloon.
After I finished the square with the party hat, I stitched both stamped squares to the large tag.
Today's word: metal
Does Distress Paint work on metal? yes again.
I just pounce on Picked Raspberry and dried it with the Heat it tool. Love the matte finish on these Mini Numerals.
I added the metal 8 to the tag with a tiny crown over the top (Remnant Rubs - Elements).
Next comes the wired check ribbon bow.
with a Wire Pin and some Baubles.
"with your heart" (Remnant Rub - Words) |
Today I have added Word keys (so you can test paint on metal) and Tissue Tape (see Day #1 tag) to the prize package. It gets better by the day!
Cheers!paula
Another totally gorgeous tag!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the pink paint on the number 8! It's perfectly imperfect and the crown rub on just makes it extra special. I love rub ons! I even save the sheets that are "ruined" and use them as if they were distressed on purpose in various projects. You're coming up with such great ideas!
ReplyDeleteOh now that IS Darling! I love the colors! it's so bright and fun! Paint that acts like watercolors! I tell you...just when you think Tim couldn't possibly get any more brilliant (or what others probably start by thinking absurd!) ideas he goes and thinks up something like distress paint :D Good thing the man never saw a box he couldn't think outside of!
ReplyDeleteAnyway...I'm loving watching you play girl!! (are you SURE you can cover everything in one little week? :D ) TFS
My fave? Well I'd have to go with Picked Raspberries. Salty ocean will have to be my #2 try.
Holy cow. I have got to get to crafting. So many ideas, so little time.
ReplyDeleteI think I ´ll love the china blue on BG´s...

ReplyDeletequestion for you - is the black soot almost like a chalkboard kind of effect? i get that the paints are matte finish, but could one make it look like chalkboard with the black? cuz i was thinking what if you embossed on it with the ranger white enamelware? that'd be cool with those new stamps... hmmmm... just trying to figure out which colors to pick for now.... Thanks!

ReplyDeleteI have a few distress ink pads that I like and use on occasion, but have not seen, nor tried the paint. I do use acrylics quite a bit. I recently came across the distress markers, but haven't purchased any - yet. I've always been a Marvy brush marker and watercolor crayon girl, but new supplies are always fun to try. Some day. :-)
The demonstration was perfect, thank you for that. I have not mastered the distress pens and I think it's because I wasn't blending. So anxious to try them again.
