Day 3 - Halloween Card File

Hello friends,

Here we are for Day 3 of the Halloween Card File! Today is all about using what we learned yesterday and adding to it. These additions will be repeated on future cards, so this is a toe in the water sorta speak!

Gather supplies and lets get started!

You will need your three plain cards and three Collage Strips. Instead of using the Collage Strips as is like we did yesterday, we will hone in the photos. Meaning each card will feature one of the photos on a strip.  Let me show you what I mean...

Add a portion of one strip to a card with Collage Medium as seen below. Keep the extra pieces on the table until you finish the cards. I added the leftover pieces above the card that they will be used on. The paper under the scissors will not be used and can be added to your scraps bin. Once you have added the main section with the photo, add in any other pieces to fill in the each card. *the next few photos show the individual cards.

Okay, now that the base of the card is done, we can start adding the embellishments.

I used 1/4" rayon ribbon in a few places in the Card File so I dyed about 2 yards of ribbon so I wold have enough for what I felt I needed. 

I spritzed the ribbon with water, then added Villainous Potion + Gathered Twigs + a bit of Scorched Timber. I used a heat tool to dry it quickly so I could move on.

Ink Technique - 

We will use this ink technique on every card that has Collage Paper so I thought I better show you how I do it. Please note, if you choose to go over the entire card with the ink, you will need to put Collage Medium over the whole card, not just where the Collage Paper will go. Wet ink over paper will just soak into the paper, Wet ink over Collage Medium will color the medium and be suspended in the ink (which is water reactive) so it can dry, right along with the Collage Medium. It's a great trick.

First thing to do is make a puddle of Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. I am right handed, so I always make the puddle on the right side, away from where I am working. If I am working on a big project, I can keep the puddle going in the same spot by added more ink and water when it dries up. If I made the puddle in the middle of my work surface, it would just get in the way of my work.

Next up, tear a piece of Collage Paper. You can use a water brush to pull it away, but I created this project very fast, so I just ripped it. I only want what I'm going to use, so all other pieces go into the leftover pile to be used later.

Add Collage Medium where you will place the Collage Paper.

Lay the Collage Paper into the Medium, then add a layer over the top.

The Collage Paper should appear transparent. If it does not go transparent, I would guess that there was not enough Collage Medium underneath, so just scrape it off and try again!

Now, with that puddle of ink...dip you finger in and transfer some ink to the Collage Medium over the Collage Paper.

The ink with tint the Collage Medium to give you an aged look. Remember, if you want to tint other parts of the card, you will need to add Collage Medium before adding the ink.

On Day 4 we will use this same technique over Mixed Media Heavystock for a different purpose than aging the paper. So stay tuned for that.

Here are the final card with added embellishments - 

Card 1 - 

1. Add Collage Paper to the surface.
2. Add an eyelet on the right side of the card.
3. Scribble Picket Fence Distress crayon into the 13 charm, then rub it in with your thumb so that it gets into the recessed portion. 
4. Add string to the charm. When adding the ribbon, catch the end of the string in the knot.
5. Add a small piece of the spiderweb transparency over the top so that it just covers the tippy top of the photo. Use Scor-tape to secure the transparency into place.
6. Add a Cello Tape Sticker over the top edge of the transparency so that it appears to hold the spider web in place.
7. Add a Clipping Sticker under the boys. Use that same puddle of ink to add color to the sticker. 

Card 2 -

1. Add Collage Paper to the surface (butterflies)
2. Add the small Adornments Key to the end of some chain.
3. Add the chain to the Mini Paper Clip.
4. Add the small piece of ephemera to the card, then add the Paper Clip as if it is holding it in place.
5. Add Clippings sticker along with the mask from the Halloween Sticker Book.
6. Add a Cello Tape Sticker so it appears as if it is holding the photo in place.

Card 3 -

1. Add Collage Paper to the surface (butterflies)
2. Add an eyelet on the right side of the card.
3. Scribble Picket Fence Distress crayon into the Beware charm, then rub it in with your thumb so it gets into the recessed portion. 
4. Add string to the charm. When adding the ribbon, catch the end of the string in the knot.
5. Add a Cello Tape Sticker.
6. Optional - Add a moth from the Transparent Moths pack.
7. Add a Clipping Sticker under the photo. Use that same puddle of ink to add color to the sticker. 

There we go! Three more cards to add to your file!
