Avila Beach Art

Last week we had some friends visiting from Australia.  On Friday evening we drove out to Avila Beach to go to the farmers market they have every Friday night during summer.   It's a small market compared to the local San Luis Obispo Farmers Market that is held on Thursday nights, but this one still has lots of food choices, the picturesque landscape and live music with plenty of room for dancing.  Yep, dancing! During one slow song there had to have been about 40 couples dancing!  We walked a bit, picked up some fish tacos, then sat on the beach wall to eat and watch families enjoy the ending of a beautiful day here on the Central Coast.

We lucked out because the evening beach weather was perfect (much warmer than normal) for visiting and people watching. Brought back many memories of spends days at Avila as a child.
With my mom at our Avila Beach shack rental - circa 1968

As the sun set, I snapped this photo and posted to my Instagram account (luckyday) which in turn posts to Facebook.
Little did I know that Jenny (from the UK) would see my sunset photo and create a piece of art based on the photo for the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge #6 - which is creating something with a burlap panel this week.  Thank you Jenny for creating such a nice piece!
If you interested in joining the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge or want to know more about it, pop over to Linda Ledbetter's blog (Linda hosts the weekly Challenge) for more information.

carry on,
paula

  1. Thank you SO MUCH for your kind words and this heads up Paula. Your photo was so inspiring and visiting Avila Beach is now very firmly on my 'bucket list' having seen how you talk about it with such fondness. How wonderful too to see a picture of you and your mum at the shack. It clearly has a special place in your heart and for that reason I'm so glad you think I've done it justice in some small way. Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with new happy memories. Jenny x

    1. Flo, that working pier is called Port San Luis. We had many a bonfire at the beach that faces the pier...still the best place for the activity. The beach keeps giving and giving...

    1. thanks Judy! I don't remember too much about that particular day other than my mother and her sisters cooking Lobsters in a big pot of boiling water and them screaming when they actually put them in the pot. funny memory to have - but good still the same!
