Houston Quilt Market - part 2

My last post about Quilt Market was all about Tim's booth and the great projects.  This time I wanted to share a few things I saw on the show floor.  I only had about an hour away from the booth, but what I saw was inspiring!  There was also a huge display of "show" quilts but no photography was allowed in that hall.  I only got to see the first row or two before the show opened one day and what I saw was amazing.
The weather on day one was beautiful.  Ate my lunch outside on the deck overlooking Discovery Park.   Day two was another story.  Pretty much the polar opposite of beautiful weather.  Luckily, the hotel I was staying at had a sky bridge over to the convention center so no need for an umbrella.
Wow, the line to Starbucks inside the convention center had about 35 people in it.  I wanted a hot chocolate but I wasn't gonna wait in that line! I guess all that rain was giving people the incentive to wait a long time for coffee.
Inside the main hall there were plenty of vendor booths to see.  Lot's of booths with modern colors and fabric.  I really loved this quilt.  I think it was the unusual color combination of gray, red, green and mustard combined with a unique pattern.
Look at all that stitching.
I liked how this booth had color blocked each 10ft section.
There were quilts with more traditional design and colors...
and other booths with a more modern flair.
Unique patterns and quilting styles.
And booths that had so many quilts, it was hard to take it all in.

Of course there are some old favorites...Amy Butler (who looks like a high fashion model).

Isn't her booth amazing?
Amy's husband David also designs fabric.  I personally love the rust color in this fabric release.
Another favorite - Anna Maria Horner

Tula Pink once again, had a great booth full of color.

Don't you love this fun chair?
Heather Bailey was right next door to Tim's booth.  Great booth layout and lighting.  Apparently 3 years running they have won best small booth award...the pressure is on for next year!
I didn't get the name of this booth selling patterns but I did fall in love with this quilt by Jen Kingwell.  Just so HAPPY!  The quilt pattern is called,  Green Tea and Sweet Beans.

So many booths selling vintage quilts.  What fabulous inspiration!

I am not a fan of crazy quilts but this one was absolutely amazing.  The photo does not do it justice.

Interspersed among the fabric vendors were the Quilting machines.
From large...
 ...to massive. Wow!
I didn't try it but I watched people holding on to the handle bars and stitching...it looks fun!  I wonder how big the spools of thread are?
Then there were fibers in every color.
And wool.
Oh wool, how I love you...
Even bracelets made from vintage buttons.
Embroidery thread in every color.
Well, that's my show report.  I wish I could have shared more but I had to go back to work!
I did have a fun time working in the booth, meeting lots of people, and talking about Tim's wonderful fabric.  I would like to extend an open invitation...if you make something using Tim's fabric, I would love to see it.  Feel free to send me an email!

Now for the winners of the Design Rolls.
Congratulations!
Kathy
Fabulous. Makes me want to dust off my sewing machine and get to work. Thanks for sharing so much inspiration and talent.

OMG Paula...THANKS for sharing this booth with us-especially a non-sewer like myself (read: bad sewer with absolutely no quilting skills). Do love this fabric though and have great visions for my cardmaking with it. Thanks for the chance to win!

Leap Year Baby
Nancy's quilt is the first quilt that really showcases Tim's fabric. It's stunning. I've seen the fabric but it didn't get my attn. After seeing Nancy's quilt it definitely has my attention. Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. I have poured over these pictures and they are amazing. I especially love the chair because I have one in cherry wood like it. The fabric has to be replaced and now I know what to do with Tim's fabric. Thanks for another great post.
